When Britain went into lockdown in March, flour flew off the supermarket shelves as the nation sought Zoom screen relief through baking. Now that another lockdown looms for many and The Great British Bake Off has premiered its eleventh series, look out for another surge in banana bread and procrastibaking.


The 7 million who tuned in to the opening episode The Great British Bake Off were entertained by unprecedented levels of drama when Sura accidentally caused Dave to drop his pineapple upside-down cakes. While viewers were outraged at the audacity of Sura’s wandering arm, it was welcome relief to have the nation brought together in light-hearted entertainment, to momentarily forget about the pandemic raging outside the tent.
