December's FTSE 100 and 250 shuffle has seen 14 companies bumped into or out of the UK's top two indices. So, who's been given a boost and who has been sent packing and what does that mean for your investment?
After market close on the first Friday of every March, June, September and December, the FTSE 100 and 250 are given a reshuffle. This is an opportunity for growing companies to leap into a higher index, while laggards are constrained to the lower orders. Companies making the jump upwards can benefit from investment inflows from passive funds which track indices, while those that are pushed down can see their share prices dented further as the support of index trackers is removed.
