Investing lessons from the petrol forecourt
In the next few weeks, most Brits likely to find themselves sitting in a stationary car. Most, while secretly relishing the opportunity to queue, have responded to the latest petrol crisis with a lot of moaning. However, the wiser vehicle owners out there will take this moment of pause to reflect on what can be gained in terms of investment.
Today I thought I was in the film Inception (the one where Leonardo DiCaprio experiences dreams within dreams). I was sitting waiting for petrol listening to the radio which was talking about waiting for petrol. I then queued to pay for my petrol among a group who were talking about queuing for petrol. As is typical of the media, we have been totally swamped by this news story, to the extent that many have assumed the end is nigh. Off they go carting down various motorways, filling up every last receptacle with fuel, before bunkering down in a bomb shelter…
